Your clairs have already been a part of your life – it’s time you got to know them
“Clairs” are your psychic senses. We all have them, we just develop them or use them differently. Just like some people are born with a natural ability for art, cooking or sports, the same goes for psychic abilities. So someone with very little natural skill or ability — with practice, coaching, guidance and direction — can become an artist, chef, or professional baseball player. The question is: how much work are you willing to put into it and how much do you want it?
It’s important to remember that when receiving guidance, whether it’s your own intuition, a Spirit Guide or Angels, the messages will always be loving, focused, supportive and never harmful to you or anyone else – remember those boundaries!
Clairs are the way the information comes in
The collective label is Clair Senses and it includes any and all types of psychic or intuitive sensitivity which corresponds to the physical senses. When you know what your dominant modality is, it will help you decide where to put your training and practice energy.
Clairvoyance (clear seeing)
Clairvoyance is clear sight. It is the ability to see things without using your physical eyes. Pictures, images, visions or flashes will come to you as if you are seeing them physically. Often they can be metaphor or symbolism which is your job to interpret. I’ve had to work at this more than any other clair sense. It was the last on for me to master. Now, I don’t even have to close my eyes or enter a meditative state to see things. One of the easiest exercises for me was, “Imagine – you could see… what would it be?” It gave me permission to stop blocking the information.
Clairaudience (clear hearing)
Clairaudience is clear hearing. It is the ability to hear things communicated outside of your physical ears. You will hear words in your mind. Often the answers come before the question is completed. It may or may not sound like your voice. While this was the first clair sense that came through to me as a child, it was one of the most challenging to tame. I heard things ALL THE TIME. A simple exercise for me to tune out or turn it off (before I learned how to in much more efficient ways) was to simply have my favorite music playing in the background of my life. I had a a soundtrack. And if there was no music, then I had songs on replay in my head.
Clairsentience (clear feeling)
It is the ability to pick up feelings. You may pick up emotions, fears, hopes, or dreams. You may also pick up on the energy of a room when entering it or the physical symptoms of someone who is ill. I think this is probably the most overlooked clair sense there is. We all get “a feeling” when we walk into a space we’re not meant to be in. Come in after your parents had an argument – you felt the tension. Even as infants we responded the the neurotransmitter of our mother while in utero. Then we responded to her moods, emotions and biochemical energy as she held us in infancy. This is often overlooked because we may not have the ability to explain, justify or rationalize a “feeling” and yet, it is accurate. A great exercise is to gauge the “energy” of a large group. Go out into a public space, sit and close your eyes. Feel the energy of the space. Identify it for yourself. Remember, there is no wrong here.
Clairalience (clear smelling)
Is the paranormal sense of smell. You may smell the perfume of the love one on the other side, cigar smoke, or flowers when there are none present. Not as frequently accessed as some of my other clair senses. This one is challenging because the sense of smell is most strongly tied to memories and anchored to emotional states. My first experience with this was at six years old, smelling pink roses where there were none. I’ve a strong connection to roses for many reasons and this is a very moving experience for me (read makes me cry every time.) It is also the way my dad comes through initially – cigarettes and coffee – strong enough for others to smell. A great exercise is to sit with the memory of a loved one and try to remember their scent – perfume, cologne, favorite drink, etc. Allow the experience to happen and see if others pick up on the odors.
Claircognizance (clear knowing)
This is precognition or a psychic “knowing.” Very often details including names and dates are brought through clearly and without any access to this information other than a “knowingness.” I developed this clair sense in my twenties. It helped me navigate the world I was in, most especially the corporate environment I worked in. It was my Bullshit Radar. No feelings here, I just knew when I was being lied to or manipulated by the people around me. Still do. A fantastic exercise to develop your claircognizance is when looking for a lost item. Just ask yourself where it is and allow yourself to know and go to the location. Again, right, wrong or indifferent is irrelevant while you’re developing.
Clairgustance (clear tasting)
You may suddenly taste the cooking of a person’s spirit such as their favorite dessert. Or you may get a taste of blood or bile if there was illness or injury at the time of death. This is a fun one when you’re dealing with the other side. They love to share the things they loved. I’ve had cheesecake, pumpkin turnovers (empanadas), chocolate, scotch and so many other fabulous tasting, and BTW, nonfattening things shared with me. A great exercise to develop this clair sense is to ask your guides to remind you of the flavors of your childhood. Sit with that thought and allow them to come in.
Your clairs are a mechanism for navigating the energy of this world and the other side. Enjoy them, experiment with them and exercise them. How the other side communicates is through the ability they are most powerful in – which is why I insist my mediumship clients develop all of their abilities. If you only go with what’s easy for you, you’re missing out on so much potential connection.
So, which of the “Clairs” is your most readily accessible? And which needs the most work?
